Like it or not, accidents happen all the time. In the case of a business, insurance is protection for the company in the event of a workplace accident. The last thing that a new business wants to do is leave itself vulnerable.

That is why insurance is so important for small businesses. But who offers the best insurance for small companies? Here are a few of the top companies out there today.

State Farm

State Farm has a nationwide network available to small businesses. They also offer a simple general liability policy in increments of $1 million. Moreover, they have other types of coverage available to small businesses.

All of this on top of the add-ons and endorsements that they offer like in-home business endorsements. The only downside is that there is a lack of consistency in customer service and that most agents can’t write across state lines. Still, State Farm sets the standard.

Hiscox

For non “chain” insurance companies, Hiscox sits at the top. Though they have just 11 offices and are not based in the United States, there are more than a few benefits to going with them for your small business insurance needs.

Still, Hiscox is a huge international insurer that operates in each of the 50 states as well as Washington, DC. Their policies have been designed for what are known as micro-business needs, ensuring that even the smallest of needs are met.

Nationwide

Another major “chain” insurance company, Nationwide, may be the best when it comes to general liability insurance. They have a whopping 14 different industry specialties while also offering investment services.

There are a couple of downsides, though. They don’t have coverage available in Hawaii or Alaska. Furthermore, they have A LOT of complaints through the Better Business Bureau. So, while their general insurance policies are quite good, you may be dealing with a Jekyll and Hyde situation when it comes to customer service. Keep that in mind if you have been considering Nationwide.
